Poor and Yet Rich

heartofashepherd.com
A man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions [Luke 12.15]. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that [1 Timothy 6.8]. What people value highly is detestable in God's sight [Luke 16.15].

For if I grow rich, I may deny you and say, "Who is the LORD?" And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus insult God's holy name. So, give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. [Proverbs 30.8-9].

However, anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever [1 Timothy 5.8]. The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied [Proverbs 13.4].

For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living [2 Thessalonians 3.10-12].

So, do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world[Philippians 2.14-15]. Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established [Proverbs 18.3]. In all toil there is profit, but mere talk ends only in poverty [Proverbs 14.23].

The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor [Proverbs 12.14]. It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops [2 Timothy 2.6]. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up [Galatians 6.9]. For nothing will be impossible with God [Luke 1.37].
