Do Christians Need to be Recognized in Tributes?

indyshrm.org
Paying tribute to the accomplishments and greatness of a servant of God? Seriously? Is that necessary? Don't they believe that God rewards his servants lavishly in Kingdom Come?

It's just ridiculous that some church leaders look for recognition here than in the after life. They organize tributes for themselves and invite others to say some praises for them and cite their great achievements. They spend a lot for the venue, food, and everything and then invite you so you'd say praises about them.

And then later, to get rid of their guilt, they ostensibly say, "It's all for God's glory!"

As Lil Job, I always believe that:
Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips. [Proverbs 27.2]
And those who like being admired by others, this is what you should understand:
Watch out! Don't do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. [Matthew 6]
Or those who ask to be praised in public:
How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? [John 5.44]
From the passage in John 5 above, Jesus says church people who praise one another are not real believers. And it's easy to see why. You crave for recognition in this world because you probably do not believe rewards in the after life. But truth is, says Jesus, you lose your rewards that way.

A lot of people prefer to lose their rewards from God just as long as men praise them.

What God wants is for you to quietly do your job for Him. In fact, he even hints that we should not expect recognition or acknowledgement on earth:
So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.'" [Luke 17.10]
Paying tribute to servants of God? Let God do that. Wait for Him. If you really deserve it (or if it's really necessary) then He Himself will make it happen without any effort from you.
